WELCOME TO ST. TERESA'S CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL, SANTACRUZ
A Warm Welcome to St.Teresa's Convent High School.
4th April 1922 was a red letter day in the life of the Congregation of the Carmelite Religious. A group of sisters from Trivandrum for the first time arrived in the city of Mumbai to establish a new Convent at Santa Cruz. Father J. Alvares, the Parish priest of Sacred Heart Church, Santa Cruz welcomed them. The pioneers of St. Teresa’s Convent Sister Mary Archange, Sr. M. Josephine and Sr. M. Angela received a warm welcome from the residents of the Catholic Housing Society. The sisters were initially given the possession of a small cottage. The good old people of Santa Cruz also provided them with basic amenities to start the new Convent.
The Santa Cruz people helped the sisters to raise funds in order to build the new Convent and a new School building. They also built a block for the boarders as the sisters started admitting the boarders. The convent and the school building were blessed by the Archbishop Msgr. Pera on 21st June, 1923. St. Teresa’s Convent slowly and steadily began to grow and the sisters gained the confidence and affection of the people in the locality. Meanwhile the strength of the school began to increase and there was a need for a new building to accommodate the new students. Therefore the Catholic Housing Society agreed to allot more land for the sisters to build a new block for the school and very soon the foundation stone was laid on 26th December, 1925.
A good service certificate for the excellent work done by the sisters was awarded in the field of Education. From then onwards there was no looking back. The strength of the school kept on increasing and the Matriculation results became better and better till it achieved cent percent.
As the years passed by, the Convent school made deep impressions on society, as it grew in leaps and bounds experiencing God’s blessings through success year after year. Recently we celebrated our 90th anniversary recognizing all that we have accomplished and now we look forward to the next chapter in our Convent’s illustrious history.
Since 1922, St. Teresa’s Convent has enjoyed a rich and varied history. We pay tribute to our distinguished history and to all who have made it possible. Looking ahead to our Centenary in 2022, and focusing on the challenge of educating and preparing the future generation, we forge ahead beyond bricks and mortar, to recognize the real glue that holds all of us together
